Monodogs of War

The rules of engagement

Be Cool

On the night of the program all participants arrive between 6:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Sign in and verify if you are an actor or a writer or willing to do either.

The Actors

The actors will bring themselves and their talent.

The Writers

The writers will bring a pen and their talent.

Paper will be provided.

The Moderator

The moderator will introduce the teams and hand out the writing prompts.

The moderator will do a quick rundown of the rules.

The Event

The moderator will pick an actor’s name out of an envelope and call them up.

The actor will pick a writer’s name and the writer will join us.

The writer will pick a prompt and read it out loud.

We will do this until every actor has a writer.

On the moderator’s word the teams will spread out and have thirty-five minutes to create a monologue.

When the time is up everyone will reassemble and perform in random order.

People’s Choice

There will be an award at the end of the evening for People’s Choice.

The Heavy Rules

  1. 1.The prompt must be in the monolog somewhere.

  2. 2.The monolog must be 2 minute or less (there will be a stopwatch).

  3. 3.The writer will use paper provided to them by the moderator.

  4. 4.The writer will not use more than that amount of paper.

  5. 5.The actor will read/perform what they are given. (This isn’t improv.)

  6. 6.The audience will pick the "People's Choice" awards.

  7. 7.All decisions of the audience are final and will not be challenged.

  8. 8.You may be taped for demo purposes.

FAQ

1. Do I have to be off book?

a. No. You just have to relax and perform.

2. What about a director?

a. No need… The writer will write. The actor will act. They will then blend their vision into something entertaining.

3. Is any subject matter sacrosanct*?

a. Your only boundaries are self-imposed.

*not really a FAQ because no one uses "sacrosanct" anymore, but you get the point.
